Dom Novogo Byta è il diario di un viaggio alla ricerca dei residui della straordinaria stagione utopica delle avanguardie costruttiviste a Mosca. Prende avvio dall’ormai cadente edificio Narkomfin, che sopravvive a stento in un’area al centro di forti interessi speculativi. Progettato nel 1927, il Narkomfin è uno dei primi edifici realizzati seguendo i principi modernisti di Le Corbusier. Voleva essere un modello per le future comuni rivoluzionarie, destinate a riformare la vita quotidiana dei cittadini Russi insieme al loro ambiente costruito, ma le sue velleità rivoluzionarie furono ben presto annichilite dall’avvento al potere di Stalin.
Dal punto di osservazione privilegiato del Narkomfin il film si sposta progressivamente verso la periferia, attraversando i paesaggi immaginari proposti dalla propaganda, fino a perdersi nella dura e massiccia urbanizzazione recente di Mosca.
