I AM THAT AM I. “Les Bonnes” by Jean Genet absorbed by a ventriloquist. A work that renounces the classic imagery of the opera, the exasperated and wonderful artifice conceived by the author, to suggest a performance anchored on a double level of representation. A show in which word and body are inexorably dissociated but ready to cross and falter. A text that in the full form of pretending fiction opens to the absent image, deprives itself of representation to deliver it to the sound that allows itself to appear. A single person on stage who represents himself and acts while keeping these two levels separated. A sort of open show, an inconclusive non-show, that gets uncertain in identifications where the outlines blur and where everything mysteriously becomes a real occurrence, an event. An escape route, an attempt to be in the most representative theater of the twentieth century to subvert it from the inside, to open it like Artaud would open a banana, like a body inhabited by a long time incubated virus.

I AM THAT AM I is the final show of Kinkaleri’s investigation path on Jean Genet’s “Les Bonnes” which started with the performance IO MENTO (2009) and with the conference / show TU DICI? (2010).
