W is a project of urban sculpture and consists of lightbox signs scattered in the city of Bologna, Italy. They mark a hypothetical imaginary line of underground art impulse and they stand like visual and concrete tracks of the city that provided space for them; the artworks represent today a visual and spatial landmark for the people who come across them.
The first sign was installed in 2007 specifically for Wanted, a four-day programme of performing arts events curated by Kinkaleri, at the Galleria Accursio in Piazza Maggiore, and it doubled the following year in Via Ugo Bassi during Wasted, curated by mk & guests. The third sign arrived in 2009 at the Sports Arena with Wrestling, an event curated by Barokthegreat, followed by the fourth one in 2010 in the Montagnola area during Waudeville, conceived by Open.
In 2018 the project found a new evolution with a W sign created by Cristian Chironi and installed in front of the Pavillon de l’Esprit Nouveau in the Fair District.
